MTech at Indian Institutes of Technology

    IIT KHARAGPUR 
    The IIT Kharagpur is an autonomous institution of technological education excellence set up by the Government of India in 1951. IIT KGP, as it is popularly known, is the oldest IIT in the country. IIT KGP has 19 academic departments, 8 multi-disciplinary centers and 13 schools that have been declared as centers of excellence.

    Admissions: 
    Admission to different programmes of the institute is through the entrance exams. Admission to M.S. and PhD courses is primarily through interview. The students are, however, also required to take written tests. The undergraduate programmes of the institute require applicants to sit for the Joint Entrance Examinations. Candidates qualifying through IIT-JEE can pursue BTech, Dual Degree programme, and Integrated M.Sc. course at the institute. 15 percent of the seats are reserved for scheduled caste students and another 7.5 percent for those belonging to scheduled tribes.     IIT HYDERABAD 
    The new Indian Institute of Technology in Hyderabad is offering full-time Master of Technology (MTech) programmes, being conducted by the Departments of Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Chemical Engineering.

    MTech programmes: 
    To apply to MTech Candidates should have a BTech/BE degree with first class in the respective or allied areas with an "exceptional academic record" and possess a GATE score.

    PhD programmes: 
    For PhD, the minimum qualifications for applying are – Engineering MTech/ME/MSc(Engineering) degree with first class or equivalent in the respective or allied areas. Candidates with a bachelor's degree in engineering/technology or master's degree in sciences in an allied area with exceptional academic record and a valid GATE score can also apply

    Sciences and HSS: 
    M.Sc./M.A. degree with first class or equivalent in respective or allied areas with a valid GATE/UGC Net/CSIR JRF/NBHM score. Financial support in terms of assistantship or scholarship will be provided to all students enrolled in both the programmes. Applicants working in Central R&D organisations/ laboratories can also apply, in which case they should be officially deputed on leave and require GATE scores.
