BHEL, one of India's leading Navratna PSU, caters to the core sectors of Indian economy viz power generation and Transmission, Industry, Transportation, Oil & Gas. BHEL has been offering recruitment for the posts of Engineer Trainee and Supervisor trainee. The requirement is for BHEL's various manufacturing units and project sites spread all over India
Selection Process:
- Selection Process consists of written test and personal interview.
- Candidates are called for personal interview in the ratio of 1: 3 to the number of vacancies in order or merit of written test marks.
Engineer Trainee: Eligibility: Full time regular Bachelor's degree in Engineering or technology from a recognized Indian University/institute in the disciplines of Mechanical/ Electrical/Electronics with minimum 65% marks in the aggregate of all years/ semesters.
Written test details for Engineer Trainee:
- Written test consists of 240 multiple choice objective type Questions. Test is designed to assess the candidate's professional (Technical) knowledge of the chosen Engineering Discipline and Higher Aptitude covering area like Quantitative Aptitude, Reasoning Ability Logical Thinking. English usage, General Awareness etc.
- Written test time duration is 2hours & 30 minutes
- For each question, choices of few alternative answers have been given out of which only one alternative is correct.
- 240 Multiple choice objective type questions are asked with each question carries 1 mark
- Negative marking to the extent of 0.2 marks per wrong answer will be applicable
Supervisor Trainee: Eligibility: Full time regular Diploma in Engineering from a recognized Indian University/Institute in the discipline of Mechanical/ Electrical/ Electronics/ Civil with minimum 65% marks in aggregate at all years / semesters.
Written test details for Supervisor Trainee:
- Written test consists of 150 multiple choice objective type questions. Test is designed to assess the candidate's professional (Technical) knowledge of the chosen Engineering Discipline and Higher Aptitude covering area like Quantitative Aptitude, Reasoning Ability, Logical Thinking, English usage, General Awareness etc.
- Written test time duration is 2 hours only. 150 multiple choice objective type questions are asked with each question carries 1 mark
- Negative marking to the extent of 0.2 marks per wrong answer will be applicable
Breakup of Questions for Engineer Trainee: Total 240 Questions
From Engineering subjects = 120 marks
From Aptitude = 80 marks
From English = 40 marks
Syllabus: The written test consists of two papers
1) Technical
2) Aptitude
- For Electrical stream questions in the written test covers Electrical Engineering Subjects (Mostly Electrical Machines and Power Systems), General Engineering (Which covers Basics in computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electronics and communication, Civil Engineering, Physics), General English and Quantitative Aptitude.
In Mechanical Stream, emphasis is on Thermal Engineering subjects and production part mainly
- In electronics & communication engineering techni-cal side main questions will be asked from Signals & Systems and Communication Subjects.
For Technical part the syllabus is same as in the GATE For English: General Questions like synonyms, antonyms, fill in the blanks with the most appropriate, word analogies comprehension passages.

Preparation Tips:
- Prepare a time table from now onwards
- Realize that time duration is less
- Buy any objective book available from the market.
- Select those books which give the method and theory to solve the problem
